What is a cookie?
A cookie is a small text file deposited on the storage of your terminal (computer, mobile, tablet) by the website you are visiting. It allows the website to recognise your terminal between sessions, to facilitate your navigation, and — for some — to measure audience or display personalised content.
This policy also covers similar identifiers (local storage, session storage, pixel tags, software development kits) that have, from a functional and legal standpoint, an effect similar to a cookie.
Why we use cookies
We use cookies and similar identifiers for purposes which, depending on the case, are essential to the operation of the site, allow us to measure its audience, improve its performance, or — only with your prior consent — personalise the content offered to you.
In line with the recommendations of the CNIL, cookies that are not strictly necessary are deposited only after collection of your free, specific, informed and unambiguous consent.
Categories of cookies used
The following table lists the cookies and similar identifiers we deposit on this website:
- Strictly necessary cookies: session identifier, security tokens against CSRF, language preferences, consent record. Without these cookies, the site simply cannot function. They do not require consent.
- Audience-measurement cookies: anonymised statistics on the use of the site, retention duration of 13 months. We use a self-hosted, GDPR-compliant analytics solution that does not require cross-site identifiers. These cookies are exempted from consent under the CNIL's exemption criteria.
- Performance and reliability cookies: technical cookies to detect errors and measure loading times, allowing us to improve the experience. Deposited with consent.
- Marketing and personalisation cookies: deposited only if you give your consent, to display advertisements relevant to your interests on partner websites. We do not use these cookies on the Hallmark website at the date of this policy.
Third-party cookies
Some third-party services we integrate (mainly the Stripe payment gateway and embedded videos) may deposit cookies for which the third party is the data controller. These cookies are placed only on the pages where the corresponding feature is used (payment, video).
We invite you to consult the privacy policies of those third parties: stripe.com/privacy for Stripe, policies.google.com/privacy for YouTube embeds.
How to manage your preferences
When you first visit the website, a consent banner allows you to accept, refuse or fine-tune the deposit of non-essential cookies. You can change your preferences at any time via the "Cookie settings" link in the footer, or by deleting the cookies stored in your browser.
Most browsers also allow you to configure their cookie acceptance: refuse them by default, accept them on a case-by-case basis, or delete them periodically. Please refer to the documentation of your browser:
- Google Chrome — Settings → Privacy and Security → Cookies and other site data
- Mozilla Firefox — Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data
- Apple Safari — Preferences → Privacy → Manage Website Data
- Microsoft Edge — Settings → Cookies and site permissions
Refusal of strictly necessary cookies will degrade the operation of the site and may make some pages unusable. Refusal of optional cookies has no effect on your ability to use the Services.
Retention period
Cookies and similar identifiers are kept on your terminal for a maximum of 13 months from their last deposit, in accordance with the recommendations of the CNIL. At the end of this period, your consent is solicited again if a non-essential cookie is to be redeposited.
The aggregated data resulting from the use of audience-measurement cookies are kept for a maximum of 25 months.
